carcinoma breast with a single metastatic sacral lesion

The oligometastatic state is hypothesized to represent an intermediary state of cancer between widely metastatic disease and curable, localized disease.

Advancements in radiotherapy have allowed for the delivery of high precision, a dose-escalated treatment known as stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) to targets throughout the body with excellent rates of local control

Here is a case of carcinoma breast with a single metastatic sacral lesion post Mastectomy and chemotherapy. We treated the sacral lesion with SBRT.

Sacral metastases are rare accounting for fewer than 5% of all cases of metastatic disease to the spine

The sacrum is an anatomically complex region distinct from the rest of the ‘mobile spine’ (cervical thoracic and lumbar regions)

SBRT is a technique whereby high biologically effective doses within the curative range can be delivered with millimetric precision while trying to spare the normal organs

I believe it will increase the local control of the disease. Let's hope for the best.
